Boo’s Jumper

This jumper is written for 2 sizes, 00 (3-6 months/up to 8kg) and 0 (6-12 months up to 12kg). There is soooo much variety among baby sizes so I have based these off jumpers from Australian Target and what other clothes sizes fit my bub when these jumpers fitted her. She chucks a tantrum over jumpers with tightness around her armpits so this has been designed to have some room in that area so if your little friend is similar don’t worry about sizing up for that.

Ps, if you are happy with ads, this version is free, but if you would like an ad free pdf version for $3, please click the link below. I always want to make a free version available so it is accessible for everyone, however, also trying to contribute (even just a little bit) to the family finances bucket while still being able to stay home with my favourite tiny human.

What you need:

200g 8 ply yarn

5.5mm hook

Yarn needle

Pattern:

Row 1: Work 1 dc around the post of the next hdc of the previous round, hdc in the top of the next stitch repeat around.

Row 2: work 1 hdc in the top of the next stitch, work 1 dc around the post of the hdc of the previous round repeat around. sc cast on 56. work 2 rounds of 1 sc in every stitch. work 1 round of 1 hdc in every stitch. set-up round: ch 2 (do not count as first stitch) work pattern (starting with a dc) in next 8 stitches. work 3 (1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 dc) around next stitches post. work 9 in pattern, 3 around next post. work 17 in pattern, 3 around next post, 9 in pattern, 3 around post, remaining 9 in pattern, slip stitch to join.

Increase round: chain 2 (don’t count as first stitch), work in pattern around, working 3 stitches around the post of each corners central hdc, sl to join.

Keep working increasing rounds until there is 27 (31)*between* corner 3’s on the sleeve edges. (9 (11) increase rows in total).

Work across back in pattern until the corner, work 1 dc around center hdc post, chain 3, work 1 dc around the center hdc post of the next corner. Work in pattern across front, work 1 dc around center hdc post, chain 3, work 1 dc around the center hdc post of the next corner. work patter across remaining back stitches and sl to join.

Work around in pattern until work measures 6 (7) inches from armpit.

Now you have a choice, to bobble or not to bobble. If you don’t want to, just work 3 rounds of 1 single crochet in each stitch.

Bobble stitch: dc around the hdc post from the previous round. Yo, insert hook under the dc just created, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) repeat twice more (7 loops). Yo and pull though all loops. Ch1. Slip stitch into the next stitch (which should be the top of dc from the previous round).

Sleeves: Attach yarn in the center stitch of the extra 3 created in the arm pit. Ch 2 (count as first stitch). Work in pattern around. To make this work you need to work a stitch around the side of the dc near where the 3 extras were added (I know that sounds weird but go with me and it’ll make sense when you get to it). There should be 36(40) stitches.

Work 3 more rounds in pattern.

To decrease: ch2, skip first stitch (which by pattern should have been a dc around the hdc from previous round) and go straight into a hdc in the top of dc from the previous round, keep working around then omit the last dc and slip straight into the 2nd ch from beginning of round.

Work 2 pattern rows.

Work 1 decrease row.

2 pattern rows.

Work 5 (6) decrease rows. 22(24) stitches.

Work bobble stitch around or 3 sc rounds.

Tuck in your ends, then enjoy snuggling a rugged up little bub!!
