Pea and Ham Soup

Pea and Ham Soup
Pea and Ham Soup

Warming from the inside out!

Ingredients
  • 2 onion (mine were piddly, if you have bigger ones, one would probably do!)
  • 2 tsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp all purpose seasoning
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs
  • 4 carrots (chopped)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp whole black peppercorns
  • 500 g green split peas
  • 250 g yellow split peas
  • 1 kg (ish) ham hock
  • 1 L chicken stock
Instructions
  1. Fry up onions and seasonings with a little drizzle of olive oil. Add in everything else plus 1L water and simmer away for at least 2 hours (the longer the better, just add more fluid if necessary). Remove bay leaves and hock. Pull meat off hock and mix back in. My personal preference is to then use a stick whizzer and zoom it up, however, I know others who like to leave it chunky, suit yourself!

The Ramblings:

I’ve been a bit quiet on the recipe from for the last week or so sorry! I came down to the big smoke for an OB appointment and scan last Tuesday but a few complications have meant it looks like I’m down here for the long haul. I’ll have another scan next week to decide if Miss Hazel is still happy enough in there or if she needs to be ripped out a bit under done. Fingers crossed for no gooey centres!

Anywho, it’s so lovely to get to spend some time with Mum but am missing my Maggs like crazy. Matt has been lovely about facilitating me chatting to her on the phone though, quite the circus!!! Desperate times are bringing out new talents in her too…. Matt’s dogs were out for a bit while she was still in the houseyard and in her excitement she discovered jumping up on the clothesline pole and spinning around… So if times get tough its good to know she has a skill to pay the bills………..

*Seedy, booming announcer voice*

“Get those singles ready mutts and mongrels as next, on the main stage, MISS MAGGIE LOU!!!”…….
