Ingredients:
- 250g butter
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 cups plain flour (+ extra for rolling)
- 3 tbsp your choice of filling (nutella, jam, cinnamon and brown sugar, etc)
Method:
Cream butter and sugar until pale and creamy. Add vanilla then flour. Divide dough in half. Here you have lots of options. In the pic above I rolled each half out, smeared it with nutella, rolled, wrapped in cling wrap then froze, chopped and baked. You can do that with pretty well any filling. Alternatively you could colour half the dough (with cocoa, food colouring, skies the limit!), roll it out, set one colour on top of the other then roll together to make your logs. Freeze your logs for at least 20 min. Chop them carefully (a hot knife will help!) then bake them at 180 until they just start to golden, be careful not to overcook.
The Ramblings:
Before I lived here, my dearest darling really went above and beyond running ‘The Hunger Games of Gardens’.*May the sprinklers be ever in your favor*…. From what I can deduce, a parallel plot unfolded featuring many unnecessary and untimely deaths, culminating in two last men standing, the Yucca’s and the Bottle-brush.
When I was teeny tiny, the bunnies ate my bean plants and I have never quite forgiven the garden gods that allowed this travesty to occur. Ever since I have given the whole concept a big thumbs down (green or otherwise!). However, given the sad state of affairs, I have had to pull said finger out and am trying this whole ‘gardening’ business.
Thus far progress is slow but the baby yucca’s have been ripped off and bunged in and I am channeling my inner ‘Knight who says Ni’ demanding Matt bring me shrubberies!

Oh Clare! I do love your “ramblings”! Best of luck with your garden efforts. Sadly where I live, we are on severe water restrictions, and I am so sad to have no seedlings in, for my usual Spring colour. Usually Pansies.
