Nothing says soul warming, hearty, comfort food like a good dumplings.
- 1 cup beer
- 60 g butter (melted)
- 2 cups self raising flour
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tsp mixed herbs
- 1 tsp all purpose seasoning
Bung everything in a bowl and knead with the dough hook until nicely combined. Pop globs on top of stew and return to oven until no longer gooey inside. You can roll them and make them pretty if you really want. P.S. this also makes the best damper ever!
The Ramblings:
It isn’t often that I have abject cooking failures, however, I actually step-by-step followed someone else’s recipe other night and my golly…… Horrid is an understatement. I was a bit dubious so thought I’d whack some dumplings on top so if it was awful we wouldn’t starve, all hail the mighty dumpling gods who put that idea in my head, they were the only saving grace (after a thorough sauce scraping mind you)!! It was bad enough that I messaged the blokes to apologise and promise not to ever do anything like it ever again! So lesson learnt, there is a reason I don’t follow recipes unless they come from a select few; Mum, Wendy, Jamie Oliver, Martha Stewart. sometimes the Station Cooks facebook page and the Crab Apple Bakery Cookbook, and I shall not stray again! I look for inspiration and ideas everywhere but following blindly is reserved for them because my taste buds are forever scarred by that Marmalade Beef!
